More info from the HP web site:
1424 - Using HP OpenVMS to Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley
This session covers real-life delivery of services to a client using HP
OpenVMS systems to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley legislation. The services were
delivered over a six-week period and represent a substantial accomplishment
in a very compressed time frame. . Review the requirements handed down by
senior management to the IT department to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley
rules. . Hear about the strategy that was developed to meet those
requirements based on timeframe and resources, and the plan that was put
into action. . Learn about the steps that were followed to implement the
strategy. . Discuss the testing that was conducted to ensure that the coding
changes that were implemented worked correctly. . Explore the roll out of
the modified application code to a production environment. . Listen to the
lessons that were learned from this implementation.
#####
Now I might be "totally wrong" but I was under the impression that
implementing 100% of Sarbanes-Oxley was not possible at the OS level (and
maybe the presenter will tell you that). What is required is good middleware
from companies like "Open Text" or SAP (just to name 2) running on top of a
transaction safe SQL compliant database which would be running on top a good
OS (like OpenVMS).
I would certainly encourage all OpenVMS people to attend this lecture
because "Enterprise Content Management" is going to be the next big wave in
commercial and government computing over the next 10 years. This technology
is now only possible because the cost of storage hardware continues to
plummet each year. So much so that it is now possible to run a business
without ever destroying businesses records. Big government knows this and is
forcing these rules upon business (and lower levels of government); but
after a period of time the tide will turn and big government will be forced
to use it as well.
As a side note, Europe is onto the ECM thing as well. KonTraG is the name of
the German Business Monitoring and Transparency Act (1998). I only mention
this because businesses with ties to the rest if the world, including
Europe, have already been made aware of these changes to business rules. It
will be a huge sales opportunity for current computer manufacturers and I
wonder if this is one of the reasons that the OpenVMS travelling road show
keeps returning to Europe.
