This is not true. If you do DELETE/SYMBOL/LOCAL P1 in a called procedure, the instance of P1 of the calling procedure becomes available in the called procedure!
Someone posted that exact solution to a similar query not long ago. I'd intended to include it in the Advanced portion of my DCL Programming Hands-On, but I don't think I did.
I didn't reasearch it, but I'm not at all certain the correspondents at THAT time were not Bart and JF!
