p.s. you'll need this link because the forward link in yesterday's article points backwards

The last three paragraphs discusses CSI, the new interconnect that is part of the common platform for Itanic and x86. It says that there are rumors CSI will be delayed until 2009. That is not good for Itanic. That could mean that the Itanic vendors will still have to develop chip sets exclusively for the Itanic, and chip sets for high end machines are expensive to develop.

In the old days it would have been an advantage because there was no competition from high end x86 machines, and thus, Itanic would not have to compete with x86 for an other couple of years. Now you can buy high end x86 machines from IBM, and they are on their way from Newisys. Thus it is in the interest of Itanic to lower the costs of the platform.

Warning, re-run!

When Intel feels danger to it's bread and butter, that's x86, it will concentrate it's efforts there, and others (itanic) will suffer.

What else could they reasonably do? No boob, Alpha is not high volume, and high volume is what built Intel, and what they need to continue to exist.

It's what you get when you put your eggs in someone else's basket.
