Not sure about that specific model, but whe the ROM detect a bad TOY, it
resets the "non volatile ram" settings to some defaults. So when you
power up the machine, you would always have consistent settings, not
corrupted ones.
Not sure about that model either, but many vaxes used a pack made up of
3 AAA ni-cd batteries soldered in series (1.2*3 = 3.6volts). If you
suspect your battery to be bad, GOSUB radio-shack, and then use the old
battery's wire/connector and solder it to the new batteries.
I use some stretchy rubber tape to wrap the batteries, especially the
ends and voila, your VLC will be good for another 10 years.
I looked in this one and it is a little black box that may be soldered to the motherboard. I was hoping someone had a supplier of these little black boxes.
Have you tried David Turner? He recently posted about having similar parts for Alpha, I think. Might be the same thing.
