VAX 11/785 VMS4.7, so scratch your grey matter deep.
Grey matter implies (as it was then known) VAX/VMS V5.*, while Orange (or, more correctly, Chinese Red) matter would be more appropriate for V4.* questions. (Sorry, serious geek joke. :-)
I have a problem with the TOY clock. To work around it I want to
set TIMEPROMPTWAIT to always prompt for time.
My documenation says I need to set it to a value greater than 32767
(it seems to be 16 bit). I've tried 65535, 32768, 0, 1, 32767, and
lot of other values.
If the word-length value is negative, OpenVMS VAX is supposed to sit in the loop.
This doesn't seem to work. What I get is a system that prompt only
if it thinks they TOY value is bad.
I'd expect that a negative word value would cause prompting, so this looks like some sort of a bug, or something that got fixed/changed after V4.7.
The system has a habit of coming up from power off with a TOY value in June, which doesn't cause a prompt since the value on disk is
in April.
Is this a bug in 4.7 or misdocumentation (I'm using the grey wall)? The last time I had to use this wwas on 11/780 under VMS 3.6 and it worked as advertized.
SETTIME is the other parameter typically involved here, but I don't recall if that parameter existed that far back.
If you can issue a SET TIME with the particular disk, OpenVMS VAX should resynchronize your clock with the value in your system disk image.
