OT: Intels quickens cadence for new 8086s

Interesting article about Intel now expecting to produce new
microacrhitectures for the 8086 every 2 years in order to stay
competitive. The last big change was 5 years ago.

Its attempt for dual core Xeon was dismal failure, producing 165watts of
heat while the equivalent Opteron produced only 95 watts of heat.

With the upcoming cores this year, Intel expects to be back in the game.
It also admitted that in order to get to the 2 year release frequency,
it has multiple teams working in parralel.

The mention of bad financials at Intel has been made very frequently in
the press, with lots of pressure to focus on profitable lines. This
articles makes no mention on increased cadence for IA64 releases.

So, if the 8086's release frequency is increased, and IA64 delays
continue, it won't be long before IA64 becomes irrelevant.
