OK, I will shortly install my Radeon 7500 graphics card into my DS10L.
(I expect to receive my keyboard any day now).
Based on what I read, the only real "installation" I need to make is to
edit the DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM and update some symbols/logicals
to define the screen size and a few other options.
However, this begs the question: FredK had said that at the console
mode, the firmware should be able to interface with the graphics card in
VGA mode.
Does this mean that the card will physically switch to 640*480 screen
size in console mode, and once Xwindows starts, it will cause the
graphics card to swicth to 1280*1024 (or whatever I ask it) ?
or will the graphics card be able to detect that the monitor is set to
1280*1024 at a certain Hz and use that even in console mode (but either
scale the 640*480 expected by the console firmware, or just centre it on
the screen). ?
Also, where do the fonts come from in such a case ? Is it in the alpha
firmware, or does the graphics card provide the ability to display
simple text (which means the firmwares simply asks the graphics card to
display a line of text for instance) ?
.
