Does work.
The contents do not surprise me. Such "peace and love" mentality is neat
on the surface, but it does not really foster change because to push for
changes, you often end up creating conflicts against those who refuse change.
No, no, no. You don't get it. But that's ok. :-)
I was once in line at a food place. There suddenly was an issue. Due to
a misunderstanding over waiting for a particular worker vs. waiting for
the next available worker, a conflict arose between me and another
person in line. He got angry and said he was next because of so and so.
That made me angry and I said something angry in response. Then a
gentlemen expalined to me in a calm voice what had happened and my
anger suddenly left me. What he said was highly disarming. It takes
some talent to do what he did (the guy with the calm voice), but it was
highly effective.
Also, when you get into an argument with someone and tell them they're
wrong, their first instinct and reaction is usually to defend their
views no matter what. It becomes a matter of pride. Nine times out of
ten, an argument ends with each of the contestants more firmly
convinced than ever that he is absolutely right. Even if you eventually
win the argument (rare) you will lose the person's good will.
You need to be more subtle. There's a lot more to this philosophy, but
I'd need to write a book.
And Mr. Todd, don't even bother responding. If you do, I am not going
to read it. Your responses are highly predictable and, ..., well, I
won't go there. I'll waste no more of my time with such stuff. That's
why you're back in the plonk box.
His peace and love mentality hasn't gotten VMS anywhere within HP. And
You're making a lot of assumptions here. No?
while he may have taken the right decisions for his own carreer ( he has
survived 2 mergers and gone up in the ranks during this time), his decision
to be a quiet sheep that doesn't disturb the shit has also resulted in
nobody fighting for VMS' success within HP.
You'd think that at the very least, in his position, he would have
sucessfully argued for a secons renaissance for VMS (eg: marketing budget)
since the first time showed that it worked well and gerenated serious growth.
And here, too. Do you know everything about what motivates him? I doubt
it. I, too, want VMS to grow probably as much as you do. But I don't
expect people to make sacrifices on my behalf.
One failure doesn't invalidate an idea. Look at Thomas Edison and his
efforts at inventing the light bulb. Or look at when rockets blow up.
That doesn't mean you can't make a rocket work.
And also, sometimes there is nothing you can do to get your way.
