Digital PWS 500au console password

Greetings,
I'm a new OpenVMS hobbyist, and I recently acquired a PWS 500au on E-bay. Unfortunately, the console is locked with a password, and I can't find any information on how to unlock it other than to "call support"; obviously not a great option given the age of the machine.

Fooling around with it I managed to get it into its alternate personality Windows NT centric BIOS, lock it up at boot (requiring removing the battery before it would boot again), clear the entire Windows NT side of the BIOS settings, and clear the Windows NT BIOS password. Through all this the SRM console password still remained. I can't find any information on newsgroup archives, google, etc. about how to reset this thing other than it appears to be a complicated process involving clearing nvram with a debugger.

It seems to be really easy to install Windows NT on this machine, but I'd much rather have OpenVMS. Does anyone have any idea about how to reset the password on this thing or otherwise make it usable?

.
