After the reboot when install is done I logged into the console as
SYSTEM and entered the license for OpenVMS _exactly_ as it was given
in the email. I got not error message so I thought the license
"took". I then rebooted the machine and it went to the DECwindows
logon prompt.
HOWEVER, if I log on at DECwindows as SYSTEM I get a pop-up message
saying the "LMF license check failed" and I'm sent back to the logon
screen.
Questions:
Why won't it let me logon?
It will let you log in, it just won't let you use DECwindows. No
DW-MOTIF license. It's easier if you can just run ("@") that whole
e-mail message with all the layered product PAK info.
How do I get to the console (ie, non-DECwindows) logon to fix this
without re-installing everything?
You may need to do an interactive boot to let you disable the window
system, so you can use the keyboard/graphics display as a "glass tty".
A quick Google search for:
vms OR openvms sysboot window_system
found:

Skip down to where it says ">>> b -fl 0,1", and go from there, except
instead of changing the password, you need to register the DW-MOTIF
license. (I think. Only one way to find out.)
