I don't believe that Dick Cheney was ever a research chemist. After he
flunked out of Yale, he got a BA and a MA in PolySci, then did some
work on a PhD at U.Wis. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Cheney)

AFAICT, the closest Dick Cheney got to any research in chemistry was in
1962 and again in 1963, when he was arrested for DWI.
