Turns out that the printed ribbon cable with the small connect
to the monitor board was loose. =A0Now I can see the MP.

However, coming from the alpha over tta0 with set host/dte
the screen continually refreshes and the up down arrows down do
anything.

Tom,

Where are you trying to use the arrow-keys? =A0The menus at the MP are =
=A0
entered
with, usually, two letter commands. =A0For example: CM, CO, CL, SL, etc=
.. =A0
The
only place I recall the arrows working is in the COnsole menu.

This was in the COnsole and the menus when presented, the items didn't =
=A0
appear
on succeeding lines but kept overwriting itself.
Anyway I am now anle to use the MP so screw it.

Congats - it is a bit of a nuisance to get through. :)

BTW, you do realize that the CO command from the MP puts you right
back into that same place you were having trouble with, right? :)

You might need to run a VT100 emulator on a PC or something to get it
to clear up. Putty works really well over the MP network port.

I use this thing called DECterm or a real term... take your pick from
a VT220, VT510 or VT525.  I have a real VT100 but that's stashed away
for historical safekeeping.

The MP port is connected to a terminal server port just like all of my
other machines.  There are services defined there which allow me to do
a SET HOST/LAT to any machine's console.  There's no need for a PeeCee
and certainly no need for Weendoze.

That's good! Personally, I either use my Mac Laptop or a PC, over the
network. Both of which are flexible enough to handle connecting and
managing not only OpenVMS, but HP-UX, Linux, and even IA64 Windows.

Different strokes for different folks- but Putty works.:)
