easier. And you can't re-size or move windows with the keyboard.

Admittedly, even here Windows has some problems here in some cases.

Define them to what you'd like.

How? They don't appear on any menu. If there is a way to do it, I'm
all ears. And in some cases -- re-defining things like Zoom in Firefox
-- they don't work at all.

System Preferences, Keyboard & Mouse, Keyboard Shortcuts, Application
Keyboard Shortcuts, [+] add application and the shortcuts you wish.

Yes, I know that. I've already defined shortcuts for "System
Preferences..." and "Zoom". But for re-sizing and moving windows, what
do you type in the Menu Title field? You have to type in a menu item,
right? There is no menu item anywhere that I've looked for re-sizing
and moving. It appears to be strictly mouse-driven. But Windows has a
few things like that too. (But I've discovered a few super-secret
tricks for some of those.) And I will admit here that using the keys
for moving and re-sizing a window is a bit awkward and slow, but not
nearly as bad as it is for Solitaire! Playing Solitaire with the keys
is a total nightmare. If you can't use the mouse for some reason for
this game -- punt.

The keyboard sucks in several ways. I will definitely have to get a
different one.

One of those crappy clicketty PeeCee ones? Yuck. However, if it is
the new flat aluminum Apple keyboard that you've got, I must say that
I am not quite convinced that was a step in the right direction. The
travel on the keys is certainly not made for the heavy handed typist;

Sheesh! Just how weak would a person have to be to use this keyboard
from hell?

You'd have to be almost dead to need the keys that this beast has.

One more thing about the Al keyboard: The Caps Lock key is a bit
unreliable: It doesn't always take when I press it.

And both Mac and Windows don't offer block cursors, which would make
finding the damned things a hell of a lot easier. They could at least
offer a keyboard shortcut that would make it conspicuous.

Block cursors? Where? I'm using iTerm and I have a block cursor:

Sorry, I was talking about the "insertion point" in all the other
typing windows, such as TextEdit and Mail. I get a block cursor on my
VMS terminal sessions just fine.

[...]

Get iTerm, I find it far more useful than the default Terminal app.

I'll keep it in mind. Thanks.

BTW, is there a keyboard shortcut for right-click on the Mac?

? Right click? I always "right" click. Do you have a Mighty Mouse?
It's a 5 button mouse. If you have the traditional ONE BUTTON mouse,
use the CONTRL key when you click for the "alternate" click. Being a
left-handed person, I find this right-click/left-click nonsense to be
VERY confusing. In the X/DEC world, it was mouse button 1,2,3. This
right-handed bias to the world is very bigoted.

I mean to right-click without the mouse at all. (Uh, make that
"secondary click".) Re L/R-handedness: I'm right-handed for all sports
and musical instruments (all that I've tried anyway -- I'd be really
surprised if it were not the case for any I haven't tried) and for
using a fork. I'm left-handed for writing and seeing (I use my left
eye for camera viewfinders, telescopes, etc.) For anything else,
you'll have to ask.
