I've read the other replies in this thread, but I will add that few folks in NE heat their homes with electricity (and electricity alone) because it would be an incredibly expensive practice. Home construction that relies solely on electric heat is limited to the most southern reaches of the country, because the heat is not needed most of the year.

"Summer cabins" in this area are sometimes heated electrically, but they are not designed to be habitable in the winter.
