What the newbie does is probably irrelevant, the Board have been

Maybe what some of us who have been doing this for a long time need to
consider is writing articles (and trying to get at least some of them
in print) demonstrating with logic (and hope the management types know
what logic is) that change for the sake of change is just plain bad
business. Maybe if they can be shown that old technology that gets the
job done is much more economical than chasing the IT style du jour. I
see economics getting much worse before they get better. Might be able
to convince at least a few CEO/CIO types to consider saving money rather
than being trendy.
Very few companies changes things just to change things.
Management and especially the finance people want to see
a business case before anything is changed. And if it does
not show a plus at the bottom, then it will not happen.
And overall the cost of delivering X functionality by an IT
system has decreased significantly over the last 15 years. So
many changes are working.
There are also some that does not. But that is not new. We also
had IT scandals 15 years ago.
