I think possibly someone has confused "mason" (worker in stone/brick) with "maison" which, if I'm not mistaken is French for "house".

How would that be in Swedish ? Murare ?

I remember in Linkoping an hotel called "Frimurare hotellet" (obviously "the free masons hotel") with an intimidating aspect, with lighted torches on the front. Now in German that will be Freimaurer and Maurer, from Mauern, "wall" ... like italian "muro", "wall" from which "muratore" -> mason
