As usual, seeing the actual commands used, with their
actual output, might be helpful. What does BACKUP REWIND
/LIST say is on the tape, and how does that compare with what
you're requesting?

The file not found message contained the correct spelling of the saveset
in question and it was backup saying that it could not find the specified
saveset on the tape drive.

Unfortunately, the system in question has a VGA based console and it
only occured when the standalone environment was booted so I could not
copy the command and resultant output. (Copying the commands and output
somehow was the first thing which occurred to me but I was under time
pressure to start the restore process.)

As it's a production system, it's going to be at least a couple of
weeks to a month before I can take the system down and play with it again.
I am also not going to be able to try restoring the saveset to the drive
again as the drive is now in production use.

What I can tell you is that the command sequence was the one taken from
the VMS installation manual where you mount the tape drive as foreign.
The section in the V8.3 installation manual is E.5.3 and I had a second
person verify the command sequence used.

I should also point out that I have done this a number of times when
restoring backups created using the standalone environment and always
without a problem. The thing which is different this time is that the
saveset was created using the installed version of BACKUP.

I will see what VMS support have to say about it.

Simon.
