SYSUAF logical name

In my original email on this subject, I forgot to mention one thing. I had been playing around with AUTHORIZE and at one point I ran it when my default directory was SYS$MANAGER. AUTHORIZE complained that SYSUAF.DAT was missing and asked me if I wanted to create it. Not knowing what to do, I said "yes".
Apparently, when the SYSUAF logical is undefined, AUTHORIZE searches the default directory for SYSUAF.DAT.
So, the immediate problem is solved. Is it normal for SYSUAF to be undefined? The system does not seem to mind.
