After multiple conversations with Intel senior management Oracle has
decided to discontinue all software development on the Intel Itanium
microprocessor.
Since when does Oracle develop on/for bare bones Itanics?
Do they make compilers as well?
I always thought they make data bases based on OSs,
some of which happen to run on Itanic.
Both Microsoft and RedHat have already stopped developing software for
Itanium. HP CEO Leo Apotheker made no mention of Itanium in his long
and detailed presentation on the future strategic direction of HP.
Which probably is the real reason behind that press release.
Force the HP CEO to make a statement about HP-UX/VMS/NSK on Itanic,
i.e. whether Oracle should provide further versions of their software
for those platforms.
The note about HP is significant. Consider that Hurd now works for
Oracle. While he may not be able to reveal the details of the HP-Intel
contract and when IA64 is to be put down, he would be able to tell
Ellison that lack of mention of IA64 in Apotheker's speech was significant.
Because Itanic business is insignificant compared with printers?
