No, it did not. I have one in my house, and I can assure you
that it does not require 3-phase.
I wish I *did* have 3-phase power to my house (for my CNC milling
machine, etc.), but the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power
seems to have some rule about "No 3-phase power in residential units".
Fortunately, phase converters are available.
