There's no (good) support for TDMS for Alpha/VMS/

In the Netherlands there is a choice of third party vendors, as I'm sure
there are in other countries.

Option b, unless there's a good reason why that is not (yet) possible in
which case choice a is preferred.

Didier,

just before I left Fujifilm in February 2002 my last assignement was to
write a memo and specify the options for migrating off VAX/VMS. The three
answers given above were taken from that memo. And actually I wouldn't
change my position given the information we have today.
Maintenance is a problem of course but in fields other than ICT it is not
uncommon to take care of your own spares. Furthermore it is very difficult
to convince management that computers do need maintenance. Especially if
someone dug up an old microVAX 2000 before their eyes, straight out of a
heap of sawdust bigger than the system itself.. Only to find that the 13
year old system was in perfect health. |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| build quality :-)
What did happen when a migration project started was that initially one
VAXcluster took over from more than 2 PDP-11's. Later a two node AXP cluster
took over several VAX systems. Increased performance, increased reliability
and a huge reduction in maintenance fees (especially so if you're paying for
24x7 coverage with uplifts for fast response, including weekends).

Most migration problems, there weren't that many, with migrations (at Fuji)
are caused because the software was not ported. TDMS was one example. The
IEZ-11 driver another one. I'd expect even less problems with an I64
migration.
