TK50 problem

I am trying to format a TK50 w/o success in a Micro PDP-11 running
RSX-11. Green light at bottom of drive doesn't come on and when I push
out red button it flickers after a while. Is it safe to pull the
cartridge out ? I was able to mount the tape but not able to give it a
lable.
