A VAXstation 4000-60 that has been running VMS 7.2 since 2001 was booted
today and crashed with "fatal BUG check error; MACHINECHK, Machine check
while in kernel mode"
It wrote a dump and during the phase *** Dump process bits it got
interrupted by a second BUGcheck (while processing a bugcheck).
It tried to reboot and printed on its ASCII console:
83 BOOT SYS
?33 UNXINT
?33 UNXINT
Pressing the HALT button up front gives:
??CRPT - Corrupt bit is set
After which the machine initializes, prints the KA46-A banner and tests OK
and prints:
?12 DBL ERR2
PC=E0042FE2 PSL=041F0004
>>>
At that point (the machine was not power cycled) I tried:
TEST MEM test returns OK
SHOW ERROR returns no information at all
After that I tried to boot the system and VMS did start, but crashed a few
seconds after it compleeted the boot process. Any suggestions what may be
wrong here?
Hans
