Suse Linux for Alphas: Which compiler did SuSe use?

Currently I am running debian Linux on my Alphaserver 800, but
I am a bit dissapointed with networking performance. Now I saw
that some people at SuSe did an inofficial port of SuSe Linux
8.1 to Alpha systems. Now the question is: Did they use the
GNU Compiler Chain or digital's/Compaq's/HP's far better compiler
to build that Linux?

If they used the better compiler this could be an argument for
me to switch to SuSe Linux in order to get more power out of
my box. Maybe this helps to gain some more network performance.

Does anybody have information on this?

Thanks,
Kaya
