The -L variants were. (-L was always "low profile" in the RZ model number).
I think they were *all* Seagate Barracudas under the hood, either 4s or 4LPs
in Seagate's terminology. RZ28s on the other hand were either Seagate Hawks
or Quantum DSPs (the stuff DEC sold to them, iirc).
If the OP has two similar-looking drives, jumpered identically, one of which
works and one which doesn't, then he is looking at firmware issues. I think
at the time Seagate and DEC were quite cooperative and if DEC fixed the
firmware on their badged models then that patch would often find its way
back into Seagate mainstream production. Very occasionally firmware updates
were available, but when I was trying to get my "RZ29" working, I could not
find any.
