Also, the owner's manual doesn't really discuss flash variants. Were there units sold with no flash? Once I get the 90M up and issue a SHOW MEMORY command, it tells me that there is no flash installed.

Yes, there have been 0MB, 1MB and 2MB variants.

Is the memory PCMCIA card memory like the DECserver 700s, or is it something else?
