So's the "vi mode" if you want to put it that way.
The real name of the editor is "ex". "vi" is just a link that tells it to
start in either "visual" or "open" modes depending on terminal capabilities.
When I started, open mode was all there was.

I use ZZ myself, though I do remember when that didn't always work. It's
