I have check using the command swlist i see that the patch PHKL_16751 is in,
is that enough? If tar is not working can I try to use Informix Ontape to
run backup?

If it is a non-HP branded DLT it might have the wrong firmware.

You should check a least the SCSI, tape2 and stape patches
