Single user mode when changing IP

Hello again all!
When changing the IP address of my RP5400 box, running HPUX 11i, do I
need to be in single user mode to do this! Also, is it a good idea to
shut down the CDE service before changing the IP?
As always, any and all help is most appreciated!
