I've got an HP9000/827S that I've been asked to integrate into an existing
LAN.
I've got a couple of issues:
1 - On the 10base2 802.3 LAN card, I get a flashing amber light. According
to the description on the card, this means I have a xcrv/net error. What
does this mean? I checked the card to make sure it was jumpered for INT
(10base2) and not EXT (AUI). I have the coax from the 10base2 port
connected to a 10base2/10baseT media converter. The output from the 10baseT
side of the converter is plugged into an old 10mpbs hub. The hub is then
connected to the LAN. I have link/activity lights everywhere except on the
10base2 side of the media converter.
2 - I don't have a terminal, but I'm connected to port # 0 on the MUX via a
null modem cable to the COM1 port on my PC. I have tried hyperterminal
(9600 baud, 8-N-1, VT100) and also a free program called QCTerm. When I
connect, all I get is jibberish on the screen. Also, when I press keys on
the keyboard, other characters show up (i.e. "L" on the heyboard causes "R"
to appear, "O" on the keyboard causes "1/4" to appear, etc.). Any ideas?
I have none of the original manuals or software for this system. Otherwise
it's clean, runs well and I have enough MUX panels to hook up about 40
terminals. I have no idea what version of HP-UX the system is running. I
just need to establish a terminal connection, get the LAN interface
operational and then put an IP address/subnet mask/default gateway on it so
that it is accessible to the LAN.
I was steered over here from the ITRC forums on the HP website.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
Please respond via e-mail to prp8396@prodigy.net.
Thanks!
