HP C180 Newbie help... Please

I have recently been given a HP c180, and I am totally new to this UNIX type
stuff, the machine works, but it keeps asking me for a password. Is there
any way around this? Or will I have to find the os discs somewhere and do a
fresh install?
I am only going to be using it for a firewall for my network, mp3 server and
for learning about UNIX obviously :-)
Would it be possible to install a graphical Linux type distro on it or am I
going to have to stick to HP-UX?
I know I am asking a lot here, and I don't expect someone to go into every
detail about it, but a link or two, to some useful pages would help this
newbie here......
