    Hi Stewart,

I'm in the exact same situation that you are in. I've found that that I can
boot from my 11i-set, but when doing so, the install does not detect any
drives (I've replaced the two huge/noisy 2G drives with a small, quiet
standard 50-pin SCSI drive). I have yet to determine if this is a 11i-think,
or if my intended drive is bad.

My suggestion would be that you just try to boot off of the first 11i cd,
and see what it does. If you have an serial console, or other way to get to
the console messages, you should be able to get it to boot from the
alternate path, or wherever the cdrom is attached. Please send me a mail
off-list so we can compare notes if you are interested.

For the second question, I would recommend a media tranciever. These are
small devices that you plug into the AUI port and give you whichever actual
cabling media it is for. I've seen them in various configuration, and they
should be relatively cheap if you don't plan on buying new ones. Old
Unix-shops tend to have piles of them.

For my own machine, I'm planning on using hpux 10.20, if I can only find a
install set. I've got 10.20 for 700-series, but that does not really help me
    much.

    Yours,
    -S
