Help needed restoing 10.20 on D270

We've found a legacy server that no one on my team relized was still in
the field, it's the only one of it's kind and is about to be relocated.
As an interim step in dealing with this environment, I need to rebuild
it from backup on like hardware. We've got a home grown bootable
backup based on dd'ing a LIF to the first section of tape.with scripts
embedded in the LIF to automate the restore. I've gotten the system to
start the boot from tape but hpux will panic apparently when trying to
access the attached RAID unit (Hitachi DF350). The output of the panic
is:
display==0xb800, flags==0x0, all VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed NEED DRIVERS ??
Although I have used the Hitachi's onborad format utility to wipe the
two luns on the RAID I am wondering if there could be a residual flag
on the luns that still represents them as vxfs which the RAID
previously contained, the 10.20 kernel I am trying to boot does not
have a vxfs driver. Ran out of time today but I'll try deleting and
recreating the luns tomorrow in hopes that this will clear the problem.
All of the hardware is identical to what was on the original system.
Any constructive comments on resolving this would be welcomed.
Upgrading is not an option as the apps on the server are not certified
on anything newer, just need to get it going as it was so we can buy
some time to re-architect from the gorund up. Suggestions that we're
foolish for running critical apps on something so old will simply be
acknowledged, I've already ranted to all who will listen and most who
will not.
