Re: VA7100 (Firmware HP19): Map disk design error

Hi,

on our VA7100 (which features mirrored "map disks") one of the map disks
being used became unstable and finally failed. I'm very much surprised
that
when a map disk fails, the array turns on warning MAP_DISK_REDUND_LOSS,
but
does not select a different disk (e.g. hot spare) for replacement map disk
(and starts reduplexing). Now I wonder what happens if the second map disk
fails...

The events (state changes omitted) related to the map disk were like this:

MAP_DISK_REMOVED
MAP_DISK_ADDED
MAP_DISK_REDUPLEXED

:)

Hi Ulrich,

I am sure that product, whatever it would be, developed by you will be
perfect.

VA7100 is not perfect storage, but a good one as far as I am concern.

Usually, such storages are declared as No-SPOF. As far as I remember, this
storage has only one RG.

If second disk fails, you are in danger to lose your data, no matter if that
is map or just some other disk.

BTW, the map is also also present in each controller.

So, good backup, monitoring and acting on time will keep your data safe. And
upgrading FW at supported level, of course.

Best regards,
Mario.
