Hi Walter,
I change the memory chips for the original ones and that's it.
Another participant had also the same felling that memory could be the
problem. Now the install is in currently in progress, at least, much
farther than before.
Knowing that memory could cause the problem I found this in google
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&threadm=7fv0cv%24tu%241%40nnrp1.dejanews.com&rnum=3&prev=/groups%3Fq%3DIRIX%2B6.3%2Bmemory%2Bpatch%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26selm%3D7fv0cv%2524tu%25241%2540nnrp1.dejanews.com%26rnum%3D3

Yes, you can go upto at least 1Gb, but you must install a patch. O2's
with more than 256Mb require this (under 6.3 at least).
Don't know the patch number, but you can find it on www.sgi.com.

Thanks, the discussion helped to think of all the possibilities and also
not feeling alone.
