Your complaint seems to me to be equivilent to someone who bought
Jaguar complaining because they can't understand the diagnostic
gauges for the ignition system.
What difference would it have made if SGI had documented the
exact sizes of the pool objects? The controllers run completely
different chips, are not designed to be user-programmable,
and once your system is up the only interaction they have
with your programs is in handling some kernel-level I/O.
If you want to learn how to diagnose and repair hardware problems
at the L1/L2 level, then take SGI's O3000 hardware field service
training course. Commands such as 'istat' are present for service
technicians, not for end-users.
