Are you using DHCP, or did you setup an IP address for your G5 manually,
and also the route, DNS etc? Is your router a DHCP server?

Basically you have two possibilities:
1) your router (cable/DSL?) is a DHCP server. It provides Ip adresses, DNS
and routing tables automatically to machines on the local network.
Then it's all simple : if your G5 is configured to use DHCP (see your
network system settings) then you should be able to configure the Octane
the same way : open the System manager from the Toolchest, search the
network settings wizard, follow the wizard and when asked to, tell it you
want to use DHCP. From there it should all work automatically.

2) you have no DHCP server. Then your local network is using static
addresses. We can't know how you set it up, but then if you have at least
some basics about networking and IP filling up the blanks in the Network
setup wizard should be pretty straightforward.

Now, if you don't tell us more about what you've done and how your network
is configured, well, my crystal ball is currently out of order.
