Hello,

My router (DSL) is a DHCP server and my G5 was already configured to
keep networking information (ip, dns ,etc.) from it. However i tried
both the solutions and networking seems to be working but is impossible
for me to see shared resurces on a remote workstation.
On the irix:
I go on the Network Interface Manager and it says me:
connected (small computer icon with the cable), Interface ef0, Hostname
Iris, IP 192.168.1.4 (it was assigned by router in facts my G5 has
192.168.1.3), Primary.
In the panel Modify Network Settings on Iris, i also try to write the
dns (that's the same of the router adresss) in the dns page, even if the
network has set up to receive host, ip, dns, netmasking from DHCP
I have not starting the NIS and NFS.
Then for the try, i shared all the disc (/ directory).
On the mac:
In the tcp/ip options:
Use of DHCP
Also here i wrote the dns also it was optional.
Ipv6 is automatic.
PPoE is disabled.
AppleTalk is enabled.
In the proxy settings: no option (and no proxy) has selected but "use
passive ftp mode (PASV)" option has selected.
In the ethernet there is its ID and the option is "Automatically
configuration".
In the sharing options, i have shared all the services available.
Now the net should work but i don't know how to sharing files between
the two computer:
on the irix i tried to go to Toolchest-Desktop-Shared Resources- On a
remote workstation and on that window i write the G5 ip. Now it
searches for several seconds but the list remains empty.
While if i write in this windows the irix ip it finds the /directory as
shared resource.
on the mac i go on the network panel on the finder and under "servers"
there is only the "g5.local" (the local host of the mac) and i don't
know how to find on the mac the irix shared resources and vice-versa.
I hope to have given you more information at this time. And hope you
help me to solve the problem.
Thanks,
tom
