Yes I could, if I could only locate:
- a mini DIN connector, which is hard to find
- a cable that has eight wires (possibly even harder to find)
- a soldering iron
With the parts and the soldering iron (I don't have one here), it is
likely that the cost would be as much or more than a premade serial cable.
