The most often quoted solution is to destroy the sync pins in the
(expensive!) convertor. My favourite solution is to use a monitor
that can handle 5-poled BNC input (R, G, B, Hsync, Vsync), use a 5
poled BNC video cable and leave both sync inputs unconnected and
set the monitor to accept sync on-green. The IIyama Vision Master
Pro series work well with both SGI and Sun hardware.

The Sun DB 25/DIN 8 for their ancient lunchbox workstations series work
well; they're rather ubiquitous and cheap (<= EUR 5 apiece).
