Greg Douglas has made a number of posts on comp.sys.sgi.* about why this
is so, the poster should search for it. The symmtoms exhibited are exactly
the same as my monitor prior to the lopping off of ALL the small pins.

I paid $20.00 for a mac lc475, put zterm on it, and another $10.00 for a
mac modem cable and voila! The only hassle I had was figuring out what
speed the serial port works at which was 9600bps on my octane.
