Did it work ok previously, but just start failing? It might be a
hardware problem. I have an Octane with a flaky network adapter
and when it decides to misbehave, I see the same symptoms you're
reporting. Sometimes a few power cycles will bring it back.
Other times, I have to power the machine down and unplug it for
a couple hours before the network adapter reappears. When I
asked about possible solutions here and from SGI, I believe
the answer was that the only real fix for the problem would
likely be a motherboard swap.
