    As far as I can tell via nsswitch.conf(4), no. I might be wrong though
    as the man page isn't conclusive in it's description of the notfound
    state.

    I tried your "files dns [NOTFOUND=return]" sequence and nothing
    changed. nsd continues to discontinue resolving any hostnames
    via the DNS.
