Hi,
I just installed and tested Samba 2.2.8a.2 on my ChallengeS
server and I was a bit dissapointed of the performance.
I have a Phobos G130 in it connected to PC network via
a Netgear switch and expected more from it.
According to GFEControl I have full duplex and forced
100MBit and my switch indicates the same.
Copying 800Mb file from PC to W2K server (PII/250MHz)
gives approx 7MB/s. Copying same file from PC to Samba
gives approx 4MB/s.
I get same result when copying to Challenge internal narrow
device as to external striped 2x9Gb wide HVD disks.
CPU load is about 35% when copying.
ftp ftom PC to Challenge - - approx 4MB/s
Although from the 'speedometer' I can see it starts out
at approx 5MB/s and gradually slows down to 4MB/s
Why's that?
nfs sfu from PC server to Octane - approx 7MB/s
ttcp to/from Octane from/to Challenge - approx 6.5MB/s
nfs sfu from PC server to Challenge - approx 4MB/s (?)
ftp from Octane to Challenge - approx 4MB/s
Machine is ChallengeS, R5K@180, 256Mb, IRIX6.5.21m
PC is P4@1800 W2K
Is there any way to speed up Samba?
Is Samba based on ftp and it's better if I get a program
so I can mount NFS disks on the PC instead?
/Bjorn
