Of course it isn't.
I also remember that one Sun employee once asked whether we (newsgroup
readers) wanted Sun announcements or not. A large majority seemed to
find them on-topic, interesting, and helpful, as do I.
I am reading comp.sys.sun.misc precisely because I want (and have) to
know of any news related to Sun and Solaris, and if Sun post
announcements or pointers to white papers, I am usually quite happy
about it.
I assume that most readers see things similarly.
