Please don't confuse "BOOTP" with "BOOTPARAMS"; BOOTP is the pre-cursor
to DHCP; BOOTPARAMS is the old way in which Sun systems booted using
a SunRPC service. (Both of you are referring to BOOTPARAMS, not BOOTP)

Indeed, you need stuff on the same subnet.

I've managed in the past through boot and install through routers
using bootparams; however, this was always hit and miss.
