I am trying to configure the X Server on a Sun so that it offers both an
8-bit PseudoColor visual and a 24-bit TrueColor visual. Preferably with
the TrueColor as the default.
The machine is a Blade 100 running Solaris 8. It has an M64 display
adaptor.
With the default settings (in /usr/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig) the X
Server offers 6 different visuals (PseudoColor, StaticColor, GrayScale,
StaticGray, TrueColor and DirectColor) but all with a depth of 8 bits.
(What's the point of 8-bit TrueColor anyway?).
Using m64config it is possible to create the file
/etc/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig with the following contents:
class="XSCREENCONFIG" name="SUNWm640"
device="/dev/fbs/m640"
res="1152x900x66"
depth="24";
But then the X Server only offers a single visual: 24-bit TrueColor.
Please, please, please, does anyone know how to get 24-bit TrueColor and
8-bit PseudoColor at the same time?
