It should work if the tape drive is the only thing on the SCSI bus
(you have 2 busses on that controller so make sure the tape device is
segregated). Also note that there are several settings in the adapter
config that likely need to be changed, since most scsi adaptor's don't
have these set by default. The vendor of your adaptor will surely
know. (usually they have the info you need commented in the driver
config file)

I use a mix and match of tape devices from time to time in order to
restore older data. My current company I have migrated from AIT1 ->
AIT2 -> and now LTO2, so I am constantly attaching the older AIT
drives.

Cabling should not be an issue as there are every possible combination
of scsi cables. I don't think your DDS4 is old enough to have a
centronix interface, otherwise that would be the only concern.
