oshadow has disappeared

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to find out why the
oshadow file would be deleted when the 'passwd' command is run? I've
tried searching "docs.sun.com" and Google without success. (Probably
didn't use good search terms.) At first I thought it was due to some
security mods that were done recently, but I tested on my personal
SunBlade 1000 workstation and got the same results.

By running 'truss' on the 'passwd' command I can see where
'/etc/oshadow' is deleted, '/etc/shadow' is linked to '/etc/oshadow',
and '/etc/stmp' is renamed to '/etc/shadow', but then '/etc/oshadow'
is deleted again.

If anyone can shed some light on this it will be much appreciated.
