That's a very blinkered view! 8-) Linux is a quote a poor OS choice if an
older Sun system will be used in any type of production setting - NetBSD and
OpenBSD are much better choices which have been in development for longer
and support more hardware options. Linux flavours like Debian, Gentoo, etc.
are good but even Debian is quite poor with Sun hardware support. Gentoo at
least goes out of it's way to do useful things like have full Javastation
support from the outset, etc.

Sun may well be pushing Linux because of their decision to adopt AMD Opteron
processors for their new workstation class systems, but that's not going to
mean that non-Opteron systems will be as equally well supported with Sun's
flavour of Linux. They might be in time, but the true open-source operating
systems with well-established support and development bases will continue to
have the upper hand over Linux for Sparc-based systems.
